All Swans Are Beautiful
The Workshop asab – all swans are beautiful provides insight into the methods and basic ideas of the newly founded Bottom Up School Hamburg (BUDS).
At BUDS the school questions the ableist, achievement-oriented, discriminatory and protectionist aesthetics and production methods in dance and the teaching strategies of professional dance training. BUDS is aimed at professional dancers, performers and graduates going their own way, who are unable to obtain recognised degrees, who experience exclusion and discrimination and/or who come from dance styles such as hip-hop / Black dance culture. The workshop introduces the school’s approach, based on bottom-up principles, self-determination and peer-to-peer methods, and puts them up for discussion. Three dance artists and the choreographer and mentor Ursina Tossi share their artistic practices and experiences with the project so far. These involve, for example, ways of unlearning, moving with eyes closed, spoken word and writing, as well as dance practices based on specific styles.
BUDS is a pilot project and collaboration between established institutions such as Kampnagel, the K3 Choreografisches Zentrum Hamburg and freelance dance-makers. It is funded by the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media. BUDS is lead by Uta Engel (Artistic Producer), with Ursina Tossi (Choreographer, Mentor), Melanie Zimmermann (Kampnagel Dramaturg) and Kerstin Evert (K3 Artistic Director) and all the dancers and dance-makers working with us.
In collaboration with K3 - Center for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg & Kampnagel. This event has been included in the programme through the Open Call.
