Dancing Conversations - Meeting Julie Iarisoa
Dancing Conversations is a workshop-series of Tanzkongress 2022, that offers an insight into individual physical practices of dancers. Each session starts with an interview of an invited dancer, where they answer questions on what is driving their own practice; what it focuses on and what it wishes to share. This will be followed by a physical exploration of their particular practice, before finishing with a collective reflection and exchange between the teaching dancer and the participants about their shared experience.
'Maray dance’ is a traditionally inspired dance that Julie Iarisoa has created and taught since 2008. This rhythmical dance uses the whole body, working on grounding, breathing, tonicity and fluidity. Furthermore, it surprises oneself through its simple (micro)movements, travelling from an extreme lightness to an extreme intensity. Julie created this dance by noticing and wanting to value the richness of the traditional art and culture of her country, Madagascar, and make it live and evolve in the contemporary context as a ‘Contemporary Ritual’. You will awake and prepare the body, learn movement sequences which will be explored through improvisation and close with relaxation. This workshop is open to everyone with dance experience.
