Land Ho!? – A Forum with Videos, Talks and Walks on Dance in Rural Spaces
In this two-hour forum we enter large installations that give us a sensory experience of dance in rural spaces. Contemporary dancers in dusty fields, rampant or dying forests, in rough studios and cowsheds, up on the alp or by the sea. The romance of nature versus its destruction; agriculture versus wilderness. We gain visual experience of the good and the challenging aspects of rural life and dance-making, and we get to know digitally and actually present (inter)national artists and their different ways of working and aesthetics in video portraits. Then we converse about different experiences of dance and dance education outside the urban centres, about strong communities, participation and lone wolves, about the social and infrastructural conditions that make rural regions attractive for dance-makers. The aim is to jointly develop new (dance)-aesthetic and cultural-political perspectives on ‘dance in rural regions’ – because we’re convinced that the future spaces of dance lie here.
After this sensory-intellectual hybrid event, those who want to go into things more deeply can connect with the team of the new network ‘Tanz weit draußen’ or go for ‘walks and talks’ with experts in the rural areas on the Rhine.
