Mechanisms of Exclusion - A Collective Engagement
This interactive workshop addresses issues of structural racism within the dance field. It will open with a short lecture-performance aiming to decentralise the white gaze on dance history, calling back marginalised dancers and companies. HipHop dancer and activist, Pascale Altenburger, alongside anthropologist and dance researcher, Claire Vionnet, invite participants to actively question asymmetrical hierarchies, politics of exclusion and colonialist residues in North/South encounters in the format of a ‘World Café’. Exchanges will particularly focus on racist mechanisms in choreography and active means to change institutions as well as their embedded hierarchies. Looking at power relationships through one’s own responsibility and how meaningful change can be generated as a dancer, choreographer, programmer or any other stakeholder in dance.
The facilitators are keen to collect participants’ viewpoints and share their proper experience of sensitization in their own work in Switzerland.
This event has been included in the programme through the Open Call.
