Sharon Eyal is in demand worldwide as a choreographer and her unmistakable signature is almost iconic. From her ensemble she pulls out something extraordinary, combining the classical, human aesthetic with electronic music.
After Plafona Now and the international success of Soul Chain, Promise is Sharon Eyal's third world premiere with tanzmainz and a consistent further development of her virtuosic skills. Over six weeks, the Jerusalem-born choreographer worked with seven dancers in an intensive and intimate process. This time she took the complex interplay of discipline and devotion, this magical formula of dance, to the extreme.
On stage a group of people are inevitably connected to each other, sometimes even a single body. Figures in a shadowy world, at each other's mercy, confinement and love, closeness and longing, everything seems to blur and yet is clearly recognisable in brief precious moments.
Sharon Eyal's latest work is the result of a permanent reduction of all funds. Even more than her previous pieces, Promise is like a dream, unreal images disappearing as quickly as they come, yet not without first being burned into the mind of the viewer. An eternity felt in fifty minutes.
This performance involves high volume.
