Fantasising the Sharing
There was once a time when people in Western societies had absolutely no difficulty in sharing everything with everyone in all common spaces. 2022 shows that such lightly undertaken sharing is no longer self-evident. Its failure induces us to fantasise about sharing. Sharing is dialectic – it can impart, take part, be a part of. At the same time it means division – separation, differentiation, prescription, preservation or renegotiation of interests. In our contribution we would like to discuss the issues that were to have been considered in 2021 at the Society for Dance Research (gtf) symposium Tanzen / Teilen. Sharing / Dancing, which – in line with the dialectic – didn’t take place. A book project is currently emerging about the non-sharing of a conference. It illuminates developments in inter-disciplinary and international contexts by asking which phenomena, practices and understanding of sharing (in dance) can be observed, discussed, explored, encouraged on a global and geopolitical level. The gtf introduces this publication and extends an invitation to an open fish-bowl discussion. Is the potential of sharing still a fantasy of sharing? What (unfulfilled) wishes underlie what we say and do in relation to sharing?
