This event offers a space for individual and collective reflection on how we, as dancers, understand our engagement with the structures of our practice; the skills we embody and the ways in which we contribute creatively in dance-making. The aim is to provoke an exchange of perspectives and ideas between colleagues in the dance field, exploring how we understand our identity as movers and the subtleties of the expertise we embody. This exchange is informed by the notion of the dancer’s moving identity, as an accumulation of movement experiences that shapes an individual way of moving, while being both permeable and adaptable to new environments and interactions. The session will include exchanges with guest speakers on how we might build more understanding of a complex dancing self and will be delivered in a participatory workshop format. By utilising a range of reflective tools, participants will be encouraged to contribute to the exploration of the themes that arise and experience the different approaches and views that emerge through these conversations.
